David Miao
Visiting Undergraduate Student
Member of the lab: May to August 2024

About me: I’m currently an undergraduate student pursuing majors in Physics and Astronomy/Astrophysics at the University of Toronto. I was actually born in Montreal, Canada, then moved to Toronto for the first 8 years of my life. I then moved to Winchester, Massachusetts, about 15 mins outside of Boston, where I graduated from the local high school in 2022. Outside of school, I enjoy playing soccer and Ultimate frisbee. I am also the current assistant choir director of New College Resonance, one of 7 a capella groups at UofT.
Research Interests: This summer, I’m focusing on gaining experience in the field of medical physics, specifically the research side. My time at b-lab is mostly spent on learning and using TOPAS, a Monte Carlo simulation toolkit developed for simulating particle interactions. My goal is to create a large database of depth-dose values for different particles used in external beam therapy, which will then be used in a program that will optimize the dose to a tumor at a certain depth.
